The NJTLC Program is a ten (10) month program that is designed to use multiple formats for professional learning and growth, which include:

  • Instructional Class Sessions
  • Scheduled small group sessions (Inquiry Groups) and performance-based tasks under the guidance of an assigned “E-Mentor”
  • School-Based Teacher Leader Internship, clinical experiences and performance tasks under the guidance of an assigned school-based “SB-Mentor”
  • Team Leadership Seminars for teacher leader candidates and their mentors on specific topics to support school-based clinical experiences, performance tasks and projects; and
  • Performance-based assessments aligned with Teacher Leader Model Standards. (TLMS)

The multiple format program design is used to encourage broad-based dialogue and use of a variety of media and instructional techniques to focus on a wide range of topics, issues and activities relevant to the teacher leader training, including:

  • Action research
  • Case studies
  • Clinical experiences
  • Individual and group problem solving and planning
  • Sharing and discussing performance tasks and findings
  • Individual and group reflection
  • Peer mentoring/coaching
  • Diagnostic/prescriptive teaching techniques
  • Data analysis and school improvement planning
